Here are five things to consider when searching for the right home:

  1. Get pre-approved! When you get pre-approved you have the upper hand.  You decide how much you want to spend.  Just because the bank will lend you a million dollars, it does not mean you have to spend that much.
  2. Location, Location, Location – location is the most important consideration. How far is it from work, school, church, shopping etc.?
  3. Curb appeal and neighborhood – When you begin driving around looking at houses, do not concentrate just on the house. Take in your surroundings, neighbors and facilities. Most of the times your gut will let you know when it comes to picking the right neighborhood and the perfect home.
  4. When you are in the community – Don’t be afraid to ask others that you see walking around. Social media is also a great way to get information. Get feedback from others on particular neighborhoods, but remember everyone has an opinion and it is just that, an opinion. At the end of the day you will be the one to call this place home, so trust your instincts.
  5. Check out online resources –You can find lots of resources online about specific neighborhood amenities. Most neighborhoods have a website. Check out state and local resources too– Do your due diligence – buyers beware is important. As a realtor I cannot legally comment on a neighborhood’s crime rate, if that is important to you and you are concerned, call the organizations in the area that track those statistics and ask them.
